Learning

A Journey
of Discovery.

ACADEMICS

A learning journey for every stage.

At ISE, learning begins with curiosity and grows through experience, challenge, and discovery.

Our American educational program provides students with a strong academic foundation while encouraging them to ask questions, explore, create, communicate, and apply what they have learned. As students progress from ISE Preschool through High School, they take increasing ownership of their learning and discover the interests, strengths, and possibilities that will shape their future.

The journey culminates in High School, where students can pursue the internationally recognized IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) as they prepare for university and life beyond ISE.

PRESCHOOL · ISE PRE-K

Ages 2–4

Where Curiosity Begins

At ISE Pre-K, children are seen as capable, curious learners with ideas, interests, and questions of their own.

Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, our program places children at the center of their learning. Through inquiry, purposeful play, creativity, and exploration, children are encouraged to wonder, investigate, solve problems, express their ideas, and learn alongside others.

Child-centered

Children’s interests, questions, and discoveries help shape meaningful learning experiences and give them an active voice in their learning.

Inquiry & Play

Children explore ideas across Literacy, Mathematics, Social Studies, Thai Language and Culture, Physical Education, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts.

The Learning Environment

Our spaces and materials are intentionally designed to invite exploration, creativity, collaboration, and discovery.

Areas of Inquiry

  • Who We Are
  • How We Express Ourselves
  • How the World Works
  • Sharing the Planet
A LOVE OF LEARNING STARTS HERE

We want children to leave each day with more than something they have learned. We want them to leave with something new they want to know.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Kindergarten–Grade 5

Building Strong Foundations

ISE Elementary School combines strong academic foundations with inquiry-based learning that encourages students to ask questions, make connections, and apply what they learn.

Guided by AERO standards, students develop knowledge and skills across core academic subjects while growing as communicators, thinkers, researchers, collaborators, and increasingly independent learners.

Students explore meaningful questions and concepts across subjects, connecting their learning to new situations and the world around them.

Teachers recognize that students learn in different ways. By knowing each student well, they can provide appropriate support and challenge while creating a classroom community where students can participate, grow, and succeed.

Program of Studies

Elementary students experience a broad program that combines core academics with world languages, technology, physical education, and the arts.

GRADES 11–12

ISE Grade 11–12 Graduation Pathways

A parent guide to choosing the right fit.

At ISE, students can choose from three graduation pathways in Grades 11 and 12. Each leads to an ISE High School Diploma when school graduation requirements are met. Students may also pursue the full IB Diploma or take selected IB courses for individual IB subject results.

The pathways offer different balances of breadth, choice, and externally assessed IB study. The best fit depends on a student’s interests, strengths, learning habits, wellbeing, and plans after graduation. No pathway is automatically the right choice for every student.

The three pathways at a glance

01

pathway

Full IBDP + ISE High School Diploma (dual diplomas)

Students take the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme: six subjects across different disciplines, together with the IB core—Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS).

02

pathway

ISE High School Diploma + selected IB courses (IB certificates)

Students complete ISE courses that meet the school’s graduation requirements and select individual IB subjects that match their strengths, interests, or future plans.

03

pathway

ISE High School Diploma (ISE courses only)

Students complete a personalised selection of ISE courses that fulfils the school’s graduation requirements. Learning and assessment are school-based and follow the ISE course requirements.

How to choose as a family

Start with the student’s likely next step, but keep the discussion open if plans are still developing. Consider:

  • Which countries, universities, or fields is the student considering—and what qualifications or prerequisite subjects do they require?
  • Which subjects bring out the student’s strengths and interests? Which subjects will they need for future study?
  • How does the student manage independent work, extended projects, deadlines, and exam preparation?
  • What balance of academic challenge, flexibility, wellbeing, and other commitments will help the student do their best work?
  • What support, course availability, and subject combinations can ISE provide for the student’s intended pathway?

ISE’s college guidance and academic teams can help families compare options and plan subject choices. Because university requirements differ and can change, students should verify admissions criteria with each university they may apply to. Choosing a pathway is an important decision, but it should be based on the individual student—not on the idea that one route is best for everyone.

IB DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (IBDP)

Academic challenge. Purposeful choice.

The internationally recognized International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) provides a rigorous and comprehensive academic pathway for students seeking the full IB Diploma.

Students study six subjects alongside the IB core: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS).

The IBDP combines academic challenge with choice, allowing students to build a program that reflects their interests, strengths, and university aspirations.

BEYOND ISE

Whichever pathway students choose, the goal is the same: to help them make informed choices, take ownership of their future, and leave ISE prepared for their next step.

World Languages Programs

Language opens possibilities.

Success at ISE is not defined by academic achievement alone. We want our students to leave ISE as thoughtful learners, effective communicators, responsible global citizens, and confident individuals ready to continue growing.

EAL Program

ISE welcomes students from many countries and language backgrounds. Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program provides personalized support to help students develop the English skills they need to learn, communicate, and participate confidently in school life.

EAL specialists work closely with classroom and subject teachers to understand each student’s needs and provide the appropriate level of support. Students develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing while building the academic language needed across the curriculum.

Support That Grows with the Student

Using the WIDA framework, we monitor each student’s English development and adjust support as their proficiency grows. Support may take place individually, in small groups, or within the classroom.

Our goal is simple: to help students develop the language and confidence to participate fully in learning and life at ISE.

PATHWAY 01 · GRADE 11–12

Full IBDP + ISE High School Diploma (dual diplomas)

Students take the full International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme: six subjects across different disciplines, together with the IB core—Theory of Knowledge (TOK), the Extended Essay (EE), and Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS). Students complete IB coursework and assessments, including final examinations. When they meet both the IB’s diploma requirements and ISE’s graduation requirements, they earn the IB Diploma and the ISE High School Diploma.

Who may thrive in this pathway

This option may suit students who enjoy learning across a broad range of subjects, are ready for sustained academic challenge, and can manage long-term assignments alongside regular study. It can be a strong fit for students who want to keep several academic fields open, value research and critical thinking, or are considering universities where the full IB Diploma is a useful or requested qualification.

Why families choose it

The full programme combines breadth with depth. Students continue studying varied disciplines while developing inquiry, research, academic writing, reflection, and time-management skills through the subjects and core. The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification and may support applications to a wide range of universities.

What families should consider

The full IBDP is a demanding two-year commitment. Students need to be prepared for regular independent work, several concurrent deadlines, and formal assessments. A student’s readiness and subject choices matter: families should discuss workload, support needs, and intended university courses with the school before selecting this route.

PATHWAY 02 · GRADE 11–12

ISE High School Diploma + selected IB courses (IB certificates)

Students complete ISE courses that meet the school’s graduation requirements and select individual IB subjects that match their strengths, interests, or future plans. IB subjects include IB coursework and examinations; ISE courses use school-based assessment. Students who meet the requirements for an IB subject receive the relevant IB course result or certificate. This pathway leads to the ISE High School Diploma, not the full IB Diploma.

Who may thrive in this pathway

This option may suit students who want a meaningful academic challenge in particular subjects but would benefit from a more flexible overall programme than the full IBDP. It can work well for students with clear strengths or interests in selected areas, students whose intended university course has relevant subject prerequisites, or students who want to balance academic study with other commitments while continuing to meet ISE graduation requirements.

Why families choose it

Students can focus IB study where it is most purposeful for them and use ISE courses to complete a broader, personalised high school programme. This allows families and students to match the level and type of challenge to the student’s goals, while gaining externally assessed IB subject experience in the courses selected.

What families should consider

Universities set their own admission and subject requirements. Some may value IB subject results, while others may require particular subjects, grades, entrance examinations, or additional qualifications. Selected IB courses do not add up to the full IB Diploma. Families should confirm requirements for likely destinations and intended majors early, then select IB subjects with the school’s guidance.

PATHWAY 03 · GRADE 11–12

ISE High School Diploma (ISE courses only)

Students complete a personalised selection of ISE courses that fulfils the school’s graduation requirements. Learning and assessment are school-based and follow the ISE course requirements. Students on this pathway do not take IB subjects or IB examinations. When graduation requirements are met, students earn the ISE High School Diploma.

Who may thrive in this pathway

This option may suit students who learn best through a programme shaped around their individual strengths, interests, and next steps, or who need flexibility in the balance and structure of their courses. It may also be appropriate for students whose plans do not require IB coursework, or who are better served by concentrating on ISE courses and other preparation for their chosen post-secondary route.

Why families choose it

The ISE-only route gives students room to build a course programme around their needs and goals while completing the school’s diploma requirements. Its school-based assessment structure can offer a different rhythm from IB examination courses, and students can focus their time on the subjects and preparation most relevant to their plans.

What families should consider

An ISE High School Diploma is a WASC-accredited school diploma. University recognition and admissions requirements vary by institution, country, and intended programme. Some destinations may ask for specific subjects, external examination results, standardised tests, foundation study, or other evidence of readiness. Families should check requirements directly with prospective universities and plan with ISE’s college guidance team.
